Situation

Align Leader Journey (ALJ) is a leadership program featuring courses. A new course centered on influence, trust, and belonging was co-authored by Krupa Patel and me.

Task

I was responsible for creating a team huddle activity and a take-home activity for leaders. To make it enjoyable, I drew inspiration from the movie “The Emperor’s New Groove” (2000) related to the course topic.

Action

After watching the movie, I developed the activity ideas and wrote them. Then, I designed the PDFs to match our branding and incorporated video clips I extracted from the DVD to host on Microsoft Stream (for this example, they are on YouTube).

Results

I received positive feedback for the unique and enjoyable nature of the activity, with many participants watching the film with their children.

The course currently holds a 4.8/5.0 rating from learners.

The handshake between Kuzco (llama) and Pacha signifies the establishment of trust to some extent.

Question: What are other common gestures, words, or actions for building trust within a team?

Belonging

Questions:

  1. How does Kuzco (llama) try to belong in this scene?
  2. What could he have done better?
  3. Why is it significant that Pacha vouches for Kuzco with the other llamas?
